A Little About Me
Hello, I just wanted to take 5 minutes and tell you a little about myself. My name is Frank West and I was born and raised in Sierra Vista, AZ. I grew up around the whole western arena and enjoyed it greatly. After high school I moved to Tucson, AZ to study Equine Science and work at a dude ranch. This only cut the mustard for 2 years and I decide to go active duty Army. In the military is where I found my love for photography, it didn't matter if it was a rock or an ocean view I was happy taking the picture. While serving my country proudly I was blessed with being able to travel Europe, and taking more pictures than a photo album would hold. The western market was quite different overseas so I found myself taking a picture of everything.
After leaving the military I traveled the south east US and had the ability to take pictures of everything from covered bridges to scenery of the south. But through it all, my heart was still in love with the Old West. Over the next couple of years I traveled the all over the US, only to find myself four years ago back in Tucson, AZ. I was surrounded by friends, family and yes the desert and the Old West. I still only dabbled in photography until a dear friend introduced me to the Tucson Parade and Rodeo Committee. This sparked a fire back under my skin, which brings me where I am today. I'm a multi-tasker by heart and love getting my hands dirty. People often ask me what I love about taking pictures of Rodeos, Parades or the Old West?
This is a hard question to answer; I love the thrill and adrenaline of the Cowboys and Cow Girls. The smell and power of the livestock, and the fans that set the tempo. But most of all I love how relaxed I am when I'm behind the camera taking pictures. My pictures tell stories themselves from happiness to fear, the struggle, and excitement. I love everything about western photography from the black and white shots, to the altered color shots. I can only hope to make an impact on our culture and keep a dying tradition alive like the Ansel Adams and Louise Serpa of our time.
